Vaginal Tightening Surgery: Complaints After The Surgery, Recommendations

Although vaginal tightening operations are usually performed in hospital operating rooms, they can also be performed in the clinic under appropriate conditions under local anesthesia or light sedation.

Detailed consent forms are obtained from the patients before the operation. Common complaints after vaginal tightening surgery, also known as "vaginoplasty" or “surgical vaginal rejuvenation”, are listed below. After the operation, patients can be discharged to their homes or hotels after a half-day hospitalization.

Things to do after vaginal tightening surgeries are important in reducing complaints and having a good and comfortable healing process.

Complaints That May Occur After Vaginal Tightening Surgery

  1. Vasovagal reflex
  2. Bleeding after vaginal tightening surgery
  3. Pain after vaginal tightening
  4. Itching
  5. Edema

Vasovagal reflex

Syncope attack(fainting) due to vasovagal reflex that develops during or after vaginal tightening surgery usually develops due to bradycardia (decreased heart rate) and hypotension (low blood pressure). It is recommended to consume especially salty foods after the operation.

Bleeding after vaginal tightening surgery

Although bleeding in the form of slight leakage after vaginal tightening surgery is considered normal, it is essential to contact the physician urgently in cases such as increased bleeding or more than menstrual bleeding.

Pain after vaginal tightening

It is considered normal to have pain in the first three days after vaginal tightening and the pain spreading, especially in a way that compresses the lower bowel and throbbing. The pain will decrease over time. The throbbing pain gives way to pins and needles, burning and stinging over time.

Itching

Itching during the healing period can be quite uncomfortable for some patients. Itching is a sign that the tissue is healing unless there is an infective condition such as an underlying fungus. If it becomes too irritating, antihistamine drugs or non-potent topical corticosteroids can be used.

Edema

Edema may occur, especially in the first week. It is comforting not to stay up long, especially to do the recommended ice compressions in the first three days.

How can you reduce complaints after vaginal tightening?

It is important to pay attention to your diet, not smoking in the postoperative period, drink plenty of water, and not be constipated. If you have had constipation problems before, you should use laxative (softening) drugs. It will also be extremely beneficial to take foods rich in fiber and protein after vaginal tightening.

Pain during sexual intercourse after vaginal tightening

It is normal to have sexual pain (dyspareunia) and even slight bleeding during the first sexual intercourse after vaginal tightening surgery. You can use lubricating gels called “vaginal lubricants” for your intercourse to be comfortable. However, if the pain problem continues in every intercourse, control is essential.

If you are experiencing problems such as not having intercourse after vaginal tightening surgery and contractions in intercourse, it would be beneficial to consult your doctor again. This condition may develop due to the narrowing of the vaginal entrance more than normal. In addition, a vaginismus problem characterized by involuntary contractions may have developed as a result of psychological influence. Whether the problem is physical or psychological will only be determined after the gynecologic examination.

Too much narrowing of the vaginal entrance, less narrowing of the inside of the vagina

One of the common mistakes made in vaginal tightening operations is to narrow the vaginal entrance too much but not achieve the desired narrowing in the vagina in width and length. These patients state that they find it very difficult to have sexual intercourse, but their enlargement problems continue in the same way after intercourse.

Bleeding during sexual intercourse after vaginoplasty

It is recommended that patients who have tear and bleeding problems in the vaginal entrance area after every intercourse undergo gynecological control. This may be related to the vaginal entrance, which we call the "perineum" raised or stretched more than it should during the operation. In this case, we recommend perineal stretching exercises.

Recommendations after the vaginal tighteningsurgery?

You must comply with the following recommendations after surgical vaginal rejuvenation. These are:

  • Avoid heavy lifting and heavy exercises for a month
  • Avoid sexual intercourse for one and a half months, sometimes two months
  • Apply the medical dressings for at least one week
  • Finish one box of antibiotics and pain relievers prescribed for you
  • Avoid exercise and activities such as cycling, horse riding, fitness, yoga for at least a month
  • Be careful not to stand too long, especially in the first week
  • Do not hesitate to call your doctor in case of bleeding, excessive pain, or any abnormality you notice
