Treatment Of Sexual Desire Loss

Treatment Of Sexual Desire Loss

Sexual desire loss includes psychological factors related to one’s own personality, his/her partner and partner relationship. Some diseases, hormonal problems, medications and health problems can also lead to it.

Sexual desire loss is a sexual dysfunction characterized by staying away from sexual intercourse, any kind of sexual acts like masturbation and even sexual thoughts. The problem must be continued for at least 6 months before it can be called as sexual dysfunction.

It can be seen in different forms. One can be completely alienated from sexuality or his/her interest towards partner may decrease. It may be acquired over time and also be a congenital problem.

Lack of sexual desire in vaginismus

Although sexual desire loss problem is not seen in women with vaginismus, this situation may occur over the time. It is a kind of ‘learned helplessness’. In other words, couples who know that the relationship will not come to a conclusion move away from sexuality in time and thus, sexual desire loss might be seen.

If sexual desire loss is not treated

Sexual desire loss is a problem that requires treatment. If not treated in time, it may cause marital problems, serious problems with partner relationship and one’s own self-confidence problems. On the other hand, it may also lead to depression, concentration problems and chronic unhappiness. Therefore, early treatment is important.

How is sexual desire loss treatment?

The treatment should have two stages. First, it should be investigated whether the reason is physical or psychological. Gynecological examination for women and urological examination for men is a must.

If there is a physical factor, it can be solved with medical treatments. If the complaint involves a long period of time, it is still useful to take sexual therapy together with medical therapy.

Sexual therapies

Sexual desire loss problem is usually of psychological origin. Therefore, sexual therapies are recommended. Treatments include about 10-15 sessions of psychotherapy and sexual therapies. If there are marital problems as well, marriage therapies must also be applied. Depending on the patient's resistance and different reasons, the therapy process may be longer or may last shorter.

Medical operations

Contemporary treatment of methods of sexual desire loss and anorgasmia problems are: - Laser vaginal rejuvenation, - Genital Radiofrequency (RF),- Genital area PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma),- G spot augmentation procedures, - Some surgical operations (where necessary) can be applied. Among surgical operations; surgical vaginal tightening when the vagina is wider than normal and clitoral hoodoplasty operations when the clitoris is embedded can be performed.

Medical managements

Lack of sexual desire may be due to a decrease in testosterone hormone levels. So, the erection problems of men are also seen simultaneously. In these cases, testosterone replacement therapy provides very good results. In menopausal women, estrogen and progesterone hormone replacement treatments can also be applied.
